Bridgemans Bistro

the gorgeous view from the Mill Bay location  "Building bridges one customer at a time."  Bridgemans pay homage to the blue collar sensibility of the bridge worker, hard working, adventurous, risk takers who love a full belly and a good drink. In that spirit we offer dishes that are imaginative, yet grounded in the unique hard working communities we serve. From the greeting you receive upon entering until your final goodbye, we're building our own bridges one customer at a time. (Bridgemans.ca)   All 4 locations (2 on Pender Island, Port Renfrew and Mill Bay) are passionate about sourcing their ingredients straight from the boat or farm. They serve up lunch, dinner and weekend brunch, which we decided to take advantage of (I love breakfast!) the delicious Veggie Benny w/panfries    The service was excellent and the food was superb. The view from the Mill Bay location was unreal and made for a wonderful brunch.  You can find Bridgemans on Facebook

Slice Resto (Nanaimo)

Image
From their Facebook profile   They started out with a mobile catering truck in Cedar, quickly moving up to a pizza and pasta delivery place in 2011. In 2012 they turned their business into a full licensed restaurant serving up their delicious unique twists on homemade comfort foods. They locally source their ingredients whenever possible.   When we stopped in for lunch on a beautiful Sunday afternoon I was already well acquainted with their amazing pizza but had not checked out their fully licensed restaurant yet.  As soon as we entered the restaurant we were warmly greeted by the hostess/waitress and quickly seated in an awesome booth (who doesn't love a good booth!). The decor is funky and inviting, I checked out their creative pallet walls and found myself amused by the funny signs and fun decorations.   The service was great! Quick, efficient and thorough. We ordered a delicious poutine ($8.25) to start. The amazing poutine! With some hot sauce added!  Then I orde

The Black Goose Inn

Image
Black Goose logo from their website   This family owned and operated British (with a bit of Scottish thrown in!) pub style restaurant was originally constructed in 1921. Located near Rathtrevor Beach in Parksville, the location couldn't be better and the food is excellent!   The Black Goose Inn offers up traditional, home-cooked meals 7 days a week - as well as 19 beers and ciders on tap! In the warmer months you can enjoy an ocean view and sit at one of the many outside patio tables. In the cooler months you can enjoy a beautiful log fire inside!  Delea and I enjoying a couple Phillips Blue Bucks!  We sat down outside on a warm Sunday, but the clouds quickly came in and it started sprinkling so we made our way inside. Regardless of whether you enjoy your time at the Black Goose Inn inside or outside, the ambience is fantastic and you'll be cozy and happy.  The delicious seafood salad The service is British pub style so it is counter service, food and drin

Cassidy Country Kitchen

Image
The Cassidy Country Kitchen is up and cooking some amazing home-style food again after a fire ripped through the building just over a year ago, seems like it is even better than before!   The small but delicious menu focuses on fresh home-made meals, including breakfast, lunch and dinner. Sunday offers up a 7am-3pm brunch. After many recommendations we decided to check out the Country Kitchen for breakfast.   Upon entering the new building we were impressed by the attention to detail in order to create a "country kitchen" feel. Success. We were pleasantly greeted and seated quickly, showing up at 10:30am on a Sunday for breakfast can be dicey but service was excellent.   My mom ordered the BC Benny complete with two poached eggs, local Johnston's bacon, cheddar cheese, creamy hollandaise sauce on a fresh made in house buttermilk biscuit served with fried red skinned potatoes.    The delicious BC Benny The scrumptious Southwestern Skillet   I ordered th

Invermere Beach (Dog off-leash area) - Nanaimo

Lisa running full speed in the sand!   Acquired in 1951, this park is located at the very end of Invermere Rd in North Nanaimo (off Dover Rd)   It's super easy to find, just follow Invermere Rd all the way to the bottom, where you will find a few parking spots and a sign indicating the beginning of the trail. You follow the stairs to the bottom and come out at gorgeous Invermere Beach. These stairs are quite steep, if you have mobility issues it may be unpleasant. The beach facing North   The park is open 6am - 11pm. This is an open beach off-leash park so there is no fencing. There are a few fresh water streams running into the ocean but these are not always guaranteed. Pick-up bags are located at the trail head as well as a garbage can for disposable (Please pick-up after your furry friend!)  The beach is mixed pebbles/rocks and open sand, be sure to check the local tides as it is much more fun for the dogs if you go at low tide!   This beach is great for letting

Jalapenos Mexican - Nanaimo

Image
Authentic Mexican food is difficult to find and when you find an amazing place, it must be shared. Nanaimo has a hidden gem we just recently found out about and it has now become one of my favourite places in Nanaimo to eat.    Jalapenos is the real deal. Their homemade tortillas are delicious. In addition to the amazing food, I have to mention the prices and service. We've now visited Jalapenos for breakfast, lunch and dinner and our bill is often under $25 for the two of us. We have been trying everything off the menu and so far my favourite has been the Mexican plate and the beef burritos! The breakfast is also amazing! Mexican Plate $9.99    The service is always amazing here, super friendly and super fast! I hope they get fully licensed soon so we can enjoy a crisp Corona or a margarita with some scrumptious Mexican food!  They do dine-in, take-out AND catering!  Address:  450 B Wakesiah Ave, Nanaimo , BC , V9R 3K9
