Vancouver Island tip to tip trip

So we have decided in our infinite wisdom to take on the task of driving Vancouver Island tip to tip. Here is the tenative plan.We live in Nanaimo, so from Nanaimo we will head towards Parksville/Qualicum, stay the night at our favourite beach resort (and do a REVIEW of course!). From there we will venture into the Comox Valley, after exploring the Horne Lake caves. Tuesday night we will stay in the Courtenay/Campbell River. If possible we'd like to stop and visit a local fish farm, so if anyone knows of how we can go about this - please contact us. Wednesday will involve either going the Tofino/Ucluelet route or head onto Port Hardy. We will be exploring all the little towns and villages in between (Lund, Black Creek, Fanny Bay, Nanoose). Then we would head south all the way to the lower tip of Vancouver Island . Our trip would end in beautiful Victoria BC.

According to mapquest the whole trip is estimated to take 10 hrs and 21 minutes. Within this time frame we would cover almo…

Vancouver Island's Best Breakfast

Breakfast is arguably the most important meal of the day, so we like to start days off right here on Vancouver Island with a hearty and delicious breakfast. We obviously haven't tried EVERYWHERE on Vancouver Island yet (getting close!) but a recent experience was worth blogging about and that place is Lefty's. Lefty's has two locations, one in Parksville (101-280 Island Highway, by Thrifty Foods) and in Qualicum (710 Memorial Ave). Lefty's was originally going to be called The Crossroads Restaurant. Upon speaking to an accountant regarding their restaurant they realized their accountant was also a Lefty! Many other lefty's appeared on their journey to open their restaurant. It was then decided. Lefty's opened in 1996.

We arrived at Lefty's after spending the morning on Parksville beach which was gorgeous blanketed in fog. We ordered the sirloin and eggs (over-easy of course!) with gluten-free bread (they also offer gluten free pizza crusts too!) and the Huev…

Vancouver Island Pizza Review.

We love visiting new places, events and restaurants here on beautiful Vancouver Island - here is a recent place we've visited/ate at! Please feel free to comment if you have also enjoyed the pizza from Slice!

Slice Pizza - 1594 MacMillan Rd, Nanaimo, BC V9X1L9 (Next to Millway Market in Cedar.

Our good friend Janice Armstrong suggested this place to us and said the customer service was great and pizza was phenomenal! Was she ever right. We ordered the Bellisimo (pepperoni, mushrooms, bacon, green peppers, onions, cheese), it was divine! This is the best pizza we've had in a LONG time. It's obvious that the crust is homemade and the toppings are generous and fresh. If you are in the mood for pizza, this is your place! (Photo: Janice Armstrong)

Cedar Farmers Market on Vancouver Island

It's a beautiful September Sunday on Vancouver Island, so we decided to take a short trip out to Cedar to buy some local produce at the Cedar Farmers Market.

As a huge fan of Vancouver Island Farmers Markets we often buy our produce and baked goods from a market at least a couple times a week! You'd be surprised at the lovely vegetables, fruit and other goodies you will find at a decent price and much fresher than what you'll find at your local grocery store.

Cedar Farm Market is every Sunday 10am-2pm on the field in front of the Crow & Gate Pub. On this particular trip we ended up picking up a fresh broccoli, some locally grown chicken, some homemade blackberry jam and a trio of peppers.

We also were treated to an entertaining group playing the xylophone's, I took a 25 second video that you can view below. The Cedar Farmers Market will be open until October 31st, every Sunday 10am-2pm check it out sometime!
