Vancouver Island Customer Service

Image
I try to take a more positive approach to life and instead of whining about bad service (we've all experienced that!) I like to talk about the GREAT customer service I've experienced. Recently we asked our Facebook followers "Have you recently had a GREAT customer service experience? What business WOWed you recently?" and here were some responses! Janice Armstrong ‎ Manhattan Home has awesome customer service. I bought a bracelet there and after about a month the pin on the hinge fell out. I took it in to see if they could get a NEW PIN...so I could fix it. They took it back no questions asked and ordered a new one! Can't beat that! They also price match on all their kitchen stuff. I love supporting independently owned small local business! Kimberly Plumley Smashing Glass in Parksville. They always treat me well. Today, I could not get there, so my kids ran in to get our goods - they treated them equally wonderfully and honoured them for

Vancouver Island Restaurant: Atlas Cafe, Courtenay

Image
What better way to spend a Sunday then taking a leisurely drive from Nanaimo to beautiful Courtenay! We recently did a survey and our followers/readers voted on who they felt had the best breakfast on Vancouver Island . After a week of voting, Atlas Cafe was the overwhelming winner. We made reservations for 11am (a perfect time for brunch in my opinion) but we were much too leisurely on our drive and didn't make it to Courtenay until 11:30, at this point the restaurant was stuffed full and our reservation had been given away. The wait staff apologized profusely, but of course this was entirely OUR fault and we waited patiently until a table opened up for four. We barely waited 10 minutes and then we were quickly seated by the window in a bustling atmosphere. Atlas Cafe has a wonderful relaxed, fun, quirky feel - accommodating to youth, seniors, family and everything in between! Our server was very attentive, yet relaxed and we settled in to check out the menu. During weekdays bre

Top 5 cities on Vancouver Island to buy real estate...

Image
Deciding where to buy real estate on Vancouver Island depends on a variety of factors. Victoria(345,000), Nanaimo(84,000) and Campbell River(31,000) are the largest cities. Victoria was 2nd on the Money Sense magazine's Best Places to live in Canada list. (Average single family home: $589,000) Victoria is a big bustling city that still offers the laid back style us Vancouver Islanders love. I love Victoria, but the housing prices will have to adjust, as they have just become too expensive for the average family (as I predict they will in Vancouver) Sooke and Langford have become two of the quickest growing cities on Vancouver Island - both provide the amenities of being very close to Victoria, but providing a slower pace of life. Nanaimo appeared 36 on the same list. Being a central city that boasts a wonderful waterfront, a bustling university and housing is a bit more affordable. The average single family dwelling sells at about $340,000. An average single family home in Court

Vancouver Island Beach: Nanoose Beachcomber Park

Image
Photo and article by David Hillier of dhp images Nanoose Beachcomber Park is one of those little gems, that for the locals is a place of tranquility just a few steps away out there front door. For Nanaimoites on the other hand, a 20 to 30 minute drive (depending on how heavy your foot is) Take 19a north until you hit Northwest Bay Rd ( at the Petrocan ) and follow it until you come to Claudet Rd, then just follow your nose for about about 5 minutes and you will see it on the left. Once you're parked and walking the trail it will lead you down towards the water through Douglas Firs, Garry Oaks, and Arbutus trees. A longtime resident pointed out a very large Arbutus and called it the "thousand year old Arbutus" , I am not to sure whether it is that old or not but for sure it is one BIG Arbutus! Once you are at the beach you will be treated to amazing views of Mt Arrowsmith and the surrounding landscape across Craig Bay (West), look to the right (North) to the Main

Neck Point Park can be found on the north end of Nanaimo off of Hammond Bay Road, at the end of Morning side Drive. MAP HERE . The 36 acre park has some stunning ocean views from many look out points and a lot of history. It is also recognized as an environmentally sensitive area. There are many rugged rock cliffs to explore, natural beauty and a varied amount of hiking trails. Apparently the park is also popular as a dive site . Vancouver Island Accommodation: Reef Point Cottages (Ucluelet)

Image
The rugged West Coast of Vancouver Island is home to many fantastic accommodations, one wonderful place we visited recently is Reef Point Cottages . Vancouver Island's hidden gem, Reef Point Cottages offer an exciting, intimate and self-indulging experience for those who want to explore what British Columbia’s most spectacular and natural landscape has to offer. With clean fresh air, idyllic scenery and breathtaking activities, the Reef Point Cottages are casually situated in the middle of raw nature. The Reef Point Cottage staff are very pleasant and are very knowledgeable in regards to things to see and do in the area. The cottage we stayed in was the luxurious two bedroom Cottage F, which is a 2 storey, 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom waterfront cottage. It had a master bedroom with a king bed and another bedroom upstairs with a double as well as a pull out in the living room. It came equipped with a full kitchen, a TV, marble, slate and hardwood flooring. Oh yeah and I can't forge
