Vancouver Island Earth Hour results


As you may have been aware the WWF (World Wildlife Fund) held their annual global event to bring about awareness when it comes to world energy consumption. BC Hydro has supported this initiative for the past 5 years now. Earth Hour occurred on March 31st between 8:30pm until 9:30pm. As a province British Columbia saved 121 megawatt hours of electricity and reduced the provincial electricity load by almost 2% (the equivalent of turning off approximately 9 million 12.5 watt LED light bulbs). Revelstoke reduced their consumption by 12.1%, beating out everyone else. Here are the Vancouver Island results.

Esquimalt 2%
Saanich 2.1%
Sayward 2.3%
Campbell River 2.4%
Qualicum Beach 2.5%
View Royal 2.5%
Nanaimo 2.6%
Metchosin 2.7%
Langford 2.7%
Colwood 2.7%
Parksville 3%
Sidney 3.1%
North Saanich 3.3%
Lantzville 3.4%
Courtenay/Comox 3.9%
Duncan 4.1%
North Cowichan 4.8%

and the biggest consumption reduction came from....Ladysmith with 5.8%! Did you partake in Earth Hour?
