Vancouver Island Restaurant Review(8): Acme Food Co.(Nanaimo)

Acme Food Co. is located on lovely Commercial Street down town Nanaimo. It has been open since I can remember and has always been a favourite place to go for fine sushi and drinks before a night out.

On this particular evening I read on their
Facebook Page they were showcasing a jazz performance with Lauren Bush so we decided to come in for the food and stay for the tunes. We made reservations for 6:30, this is highly recommended on weekends as it can get extremely busy.

Even though it was indeed extremely busy when we arrived, we were quickly seated and informed about the specials and our drink order was taken. We ordered a couple of their well-known 2 oz martini's and got the night started. We decided to order a few appetizer's so we could try a few different things on the menu, we've had the sushi plenty of times and it never disappoints!

After careful contemplation we decided on a half dozen local oysters, the Frazzled prawns and the award winning wild pacific salmon cakes. Everything arrived at the same time and looked amazing. We dug into the local oysters first, they were accompanied by a simple hot sauce and a sweet sauce. I experimented with putting a couple drops of both on an oyster and it was an instant mouthgasm! These oysters were fresh and definitely in my Top 5 best oysters I've had at a restaurant.

After the oysters were consumed and enjoyed, we dug into the Frazzled prawns which are phyllo crusted white tiger prawns, balsamic reduction and jalapeno aioli. They had fantastic crunch and the prawns inside were hot and cooked to perfection. The jalapeno aioli had an awesome bite and complimented the prawns accordingly.

Then there were the Wild Pacific Salmon Cakes with fire roasted corn salsa drizzled in chipotle mayo. The outside of the cakes were slightly crunchy while the inside boasted the moistness that makes a salmon cake phenomenal. The corn salsa added a sweetness to the salmon that made the whole plate delicious!

Our dining experience was fantastic! We were blessed with an attentive, friendly and quick server even considering it was very busy - we'll be back again very soon! (for all you can eat sushi on Tuesday's perhaps!)
