What's happening on Vancouver Island in September....

Guest article by @Valvdg

As summer draw to a close and the kiddies go back to school it’s time for foodies and gourmands to come out to play. This September is a bonanza of food and wine experiences.

Here are a few I’ll be attending as well as my short list of favourites:

Head over to the Cowichan Valley for the “Cowichan Wine & Culinary Festival” happening from September 8 to 16.

I’m particularly interested in the Thursday, September 13 Savour! at 'The Barn'

at Bird’s Eye Cove Farm. The “barn” is their newest venture and is a terrific venue for this premier wine tasting event. Featuring wines from ten of the Cowichan Valley wineries as well as culinary treats prepared by the farms’ own chef Ashley Lee incorporating the farm's signature Highland beef.

$79. Each which includes a Reidel wine glass souvenir. Tickets available by Paypal or at Spinnakers Spirit Merchants, James Bay Spirit Merchants, Damali Lavender & Winery, Rocky Creek Winery, Silverside Farm & Winery & Unsworth Vineyards.

Up to the north central Island there is an inaugural event supporting the Black Creek Community Association Fall Fair celebration an evening of Live Jazz, Wine Tour, Tasting & Local Hors D’Oeuvres hosted by Coastal Black Winery. Friday, September 14th.

This promises to be a great evening of entertainment and merriment. Seating is limited and at this price tickets are going fast. Purchase before Sept 7 for $15.00 each or 2 for $25. For groups of four or more the designated driver is free. After Sept 7 $20 each. To purchase tickets drop into the BCCA or by phone at 250 337 5190.

This is my neck of the woods so in addition to the Fall Fair celebration I will be taking in all the fun of the home spun Black Creek Community Association annual fall fair on Saturday, September 15. So if hot dogs, hamburgers and corn on the cob is your idea of a good time head on down.

To round off the September events there Is the first annual “Flavours” where the finest chefs, vintners, farmers and producers are invited to showcase their talents, support Vancouver Island culinary culture and educate the community.

“Flavours” is geared towards families and foodies. Held at Black Creek Estates.

Presented by the North Island College Foundation. For more information go to https://gourmetpicnic.ca
