Kilrenny Farm (Duncan)

Photo from kilrennyfarm.com   Kilrenny Farm has been active since the 1920s - the current owners have farmed organically on the property since 1988.    Their catchphrase is "Local food for local people" and they grow a variety of seasonal organic vegetables, raise free run/range chickens and turkeys and more recently have begun producing fresh grain pastas and pasta sauces (using ingredients from their organic garden as much as possible!)   Visit them in the Cowichan Valley at 1470 Cowichan Bay Rd.  250 743 9019 Open: Weds. through Sun. 10am to 6pm

Pachena Bay Beach with the sun shining   Pachena Bay Campground is mostly made up of beach front sites (or at least a few steps from this beautiful beach) and is about 20 mins from Bamfield. There are two routes you can take to get to Pachena. The Port Alberni route is about an hour and a half on a gravel road, or through Youbou, which is 2 and a half hours. The P achena Bay Campground is owned and operated by the Huu-ay-aht First Nations community. This is also the head of the world-famous West Coast Trail.

Flores Island man kills cougar with spear

  It certainly isn't common, but a man on Flores Island (just north of Tofino) has killed a cougar by spearing it in the side after the animal attacked his 60 y/o partner outside the couples cabin on Sunday around 6pm. The woman has been air lifted to Victoria General Hospital with lacerations and bites to the head as well as an arm injury. She is expected to recover.
